Right to the order of the day. I Heard some disturbing news that next Tuesday, December 13th, 2005 will mark the end of the Delta Zeta Chapter, Delta Sigma Phi, HPU. I hope this is merely a rumor and that all is well with the SIGS. It would be very disappointing to see the ONE and ONLY fraternity go down the sh*tter. I trust these are only rumors and rumors they will remain. We all know how difficult it has been in recent years to maintain our fraternity, but tried and true we always triumph over the most hardeous tasks.
With that said, I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.
Mr. Nelson, I look forward to ACC Hoops and all the Duke bashing that will accompany this season. Sure the Heels lost to Illinois, but that does not concern me. By the way, the world is right...the Mounties are 9-1 and Duke is on top where they belong. For you gents heading out to Jackson Hole, the original Jackson Hole crew pulled the best stunt of all time over HPU, i.e. HPU paid for our trip. I guess I find all in the a.m., whether in pacific, easterm, eastern/standard, mountain, or western... Whatever time zone you may find yourself in, god f'in f'er's... It is good to be livin'. I hope all of you are doing great! I have just found myself to the computer after a long night of a$$hole. As you get older you find it is much more difficult to catch cosing out the four on the floor. Man, as I remember those old times on Kirkman and Lindsay and the oppulent stone sculptures that were blessed upon us from the wealthier areas of High point, I think for a moment, and say, God Damn, those were good days... Ah, those days... When Fish was almost shot by a true North Kakilaci Redneck for stealing the ol' man's '72 Bronco. Or Hole falling off the lIndsay street Roof. Hide and go seek on the top of the largest Mushroom in the world, Time flies. Just that Bacon, Chili, Cheese Dog from the Dog house. That Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit, Sweet Tea, and Hash Brown from the Factory. Oh, how I miss these things. Legs and Eggs, Willie, Merle, and Cash. Whiskey, Velvet, and Budweiser... How different you were just those 5 years ago. Throug all of those years, I will never forget my friends, as though you may have aged or changed, you remain the same in my heart. to those far and near, here and elsewhere, may life or other find you well. We have shared in times of triumph, sadness, and "good Times!!!"

Comment(s): Hello to All! No I have not disappeared, but I am living in Charlotte still. I am bored at work right now and I have been reading a lot of these comments from this year. I remember my first day when I was a freshman at high point university. I went to a huge party on LINDSEY STREET which is like a mile or two outside of campus. I never thought I was a "fraternity guy" but I met alot of guys who were a part of Delta Sigma Phi. These were the coolest guys, not just crazy, but most friendly and DRUNK. But anyway, I always said, "WOW, if I were to join a fraternity in would be that one. All the others (fraternities) on campus did not matter to me even though they courted me and invited me to functions. I did not pledge my freshman year, but all my friends seemed to be in Delta Sigma Phi and not once did they abandon me even though I was not a part of them,...YET. The next year, I thought about it long and hard, decided to pledge, and i was from the inside looking out. As a member a Delta Sigma Phi, we all knew that we were the best on campus (and everyone else knew too). No matter how hard Gart Evans, the National Fraternity, the HPU Police, the IFC and the rest of the school tried to sabotage us, NO MATTER HOW MUCH DEBT WE WERE IN, we always bounced back and rose to the top. Even when we had the fraternity house, that did not mean that we were always allowed to use it. Some of us remember when the National Fraternity decided to go dry. We always had back up plans for everything, we always had 2 or 3 different houses and we always got the pledges we wanted (and a few others that surprised us).
Now we never wanted to have like 50 or 60 people on our fraternity, we always wanted to be about 30 strong and replace the people we lost from graduation. We always had the closest brotherhood on campus.
Now I know its tough for you active guys right now, but it has never been easy. I have come back at least twice a year since I have graduated and a lot has changed every time I go. And most of you active guys are probably tired of alumni talking down on you (because we all have been in the same position), but we only do it because we care.
I know the brotherhood is still there, but we need the reputation back. We need to be first on the list.
For those active guys who dont know me, i graduated in 2002 and I live in Charlotte. I probably will be visiting again sometime soon. If anyone needs any help with anything just let me know, its only an hour drive.

Comment(s): Just wanted to back up what our President Terry Maturo was saying earlier. This will be my 5th year as an active brother and i saw how it was when when i was a freshmen, and how it is now... things havent been easy here at hpu, and i know that isnt an excuse, but we were left with a huge debt to take care of, the fraternity house was destroyed,and went through a year where we werent recongnized on campus, which ment no recruitment. I can honestly say we are turning the corner, leadership is good, the active brothers who make up the fraternity care about it whole heartidly. I currently hold the position of SEargant at arms and feel like i have learned the position from one of the best weve ever had, absolutley NOTHING has changed in that department. Delta Zeta means everything to me and I honestly believe things are looking up for Delta zeta.

They should be on the otherside within the next couple weeks. We have a good standing with the school finally and Gart is helping us with fundraising for the 50th aniversary bash. The alumni would't be so tough, if they didn't care
We've all experienced what your going through, and believe me you can turn sh*t around. I know it sucks dealing with problems you didn't create, but thats what sets this fraternity apart from the rest. Loyalty to the nile green and each other. It doesn't matter if you have six or sixty bros, if you stick together you can kick some a$$.
If money is becoming a problem, which it has ALWAYS been, talk to Gart about that guy we used to work for in the winter a couple years back. You can raise some serious jing-jing if you can get everyone to put some time in. We had six or seven guys pull the entire fraternity out of debt a few years back. Remember you only take out of it, what you put into the Fraternity.
P.S. and if that punk Roger is busting your balls, tell him to leave my boys alone, or I'm gonna come down there and rock his jaw.

I really think the Active Brothers need to take a serious look at the future of the Fraternity. Just because the school is not fully cooperating, or Brother numbers are down is NOT a reason to call it quits! It's a very simple answer to your problem...BROTHERHOOD!!! Someone needs to f*cking take charge, kick it in gear, and turn the god damn fraternity back into what it was.
I think all of the Alumni are sick and tired of hearing "how many brothers do we have, what's going on down at HPU, is there even a Fraternity anymore". These are all questions that need to be turned around w/ a positive answer. You say you have no Alumni support...improve your Alumni Relations. We are here to help, and to turn the Fraternity back into what it was before.
We are looking at just about 50 years of Y.I.T.B.O.S (Delta Zeta), and what does that mean to us? I’ll f*cking tell you what it means...it means that in the past 50 years there has been, and still is a connection between each and every Delta Zeta that has been initiated. It comes w/ a huge amount of admiration, dignity, honor and Brotherhood. This is something that we have all earned and still have a great amount of respect and pride for. 50 years did not come easy...nor does the effort ONE puts into it come easy as well. Remember why you pledged and what decisions you make affect the future and outcome of the entire Fraternity as a whole from here on out-
I know it is much easier said than done-
And that Fraternity life tends to change throughout the years w/ new generations, etc, but...
We are here for support and advice...so please ask any Alum for suggestions to get this once great thing back again for future Sigs to enjoy-

Thank you for the phone calls and emails. Elizabeth, our two boys and baby to be #3 are all fine. Meridian took a big hit even being inland 150 miles. The kid you’re referring to was walking back from Cleary’s and apparently he was pretty wasted. He was walking behind Curly’s apartments in the woods and slipped while trying to cross a creek. He busted his head and died from the injuries supposedly. Either this kid was the victim of just being too drunk or foul play.

To all you SIGS that still reside in the Great State of North Carolina - just a heads up, I'm getting the hell out of D.C. and back down to the South. It's been a great experience working for the government, but the unecessary hussle and bussle of everyday life is not worth giving up the peace and serenity you can find in no other place the the South. There's too many damn yankees up here too. How anyone lives above Richmond is beyond me. There should be a new Mason-Dixon line drawn just north of Richmond b/c any area above that including our great capital has been over taken by damn yankees. Will someone explain to Torg that the chances of Maryland going to the NCAA Tournement are slim?
Torg - we both have extensive knowledge about ACC Basketball; however, giving the fact that 4 ACC teams reside in the GREAT STATE of NORTH CAROLINA. Not to mention UNC has won 3 National Championships (1957, 1982, 1993). Maryland has won how many? Exactly! UNC has had 10 Final Four appearances since 1939 and Maryland has only had 2 amd those two have been just in this century.

Ahh... yes the Terps were able to take down the Dookies twice - I applaud both victories, yet the Terps were taken down twice by UNC (that had to hurt), the Wolfpack (salt in the wound), and Clemson (kill me now I want this nightmare to be over). After all is said in done Maryland is just another mediocre team with some good luck on their side against DOOK. I wish the Terps all the best against Virginia Tech, but Tech will probably sweep them as well. How does it feel winning the ACC last year and now knowing what you know now facing the embarrassment of most likely not making to the NCAA Tournement this year. Sorry Gary - we can't win them all.

I'm just as happy as you are about the Terps beating Duke. Trust me a Duke lost is almost as good as a Carolina win. But just b/c in the past few years the rivalry between Duke and the Terps has heated up does not mean that it will ever be a fierce and heated as Duke and UNC. Get back to me in 50 years if the rivalry between Duke and Maryland is what is it today between UNC and Duke. You're talking about 50 years that the rivalry between Duke and UNC had existed. A rivalry that was literally created by Frank McGuire (then coach of the Heels). I'll admitt after the "point-shaving" scandal the rivalry died down. It took the greatest coach in the history of college basketball and basketball for that matter to bring the Heels back to the TOP - Dean Smith. Maryland and Duke have just recently in the past few years began a rivalry. It's going to take a lot more than just a few games for Maryland to compete with the rivalry of all rivalries - UNC v. Duke. Go play in the traffic till you can come back with a solid argument. Also, try knowing something about the history of the ACC. I've got better things to do w/ my time than to correct someone on their obvious lack of knowledege. I guess the amount of oxygen has been temporarily cut off due to the recent win over the DOOKS. Congratulations again, but let's try to keep our head growing to a minimal. By the way - last I recall the Terds haven't won against UNC this year and I don't see it happening on the 27th either. For instants, UNC has beaten the Terds this year and the Terds have beaten Duke. Being a Terd is simple. Sometimes your lucky as sh*t and sometimes you just got the runs. Stephen Menosky
A Mass of Christian burial for Stephen M. Menosky, 25, of Crofton, will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Drive, in Crofton.
Mr. Menosky died at the scene of injuries suffered in an automobile accident Oct. 18 at Route 450 and Huntwood Drive in Gambrills.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie. Burial arrangements are incomplete. Born March 8, 1979, in Annapolis, Mr. Menosky attended Crofton schools, Arundel High School and High Point University in North Carolina.
He was employed as a new car salesperson at Sheehy Nissan in Annapolis. He was a lifelong member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, where he was a former altar server. His interests included music and sports.
Surviving are his parents, Eleanor and Frederick Menosky of Crofton; his grandmother, Helen DeAngelis Follett of Crofton; two brothers, Peter Menosky of Boulder, Colo., and Christopher Menosky of Atlanta, Ga.; and a nephew and a niece.
