Based on my experience, it might help to let the alumni know about the situation through a direct means (direct e-mails). With the fraternity being a non-profit organization, the chapter might want to look for donations from all sources (older alums)- not just those with whom you are in present contact. A lot of companies will match donations made by their employees to non-profit organizations. And by all means, if and when you get any donations, do your best to express formally your gratitude. Kudos to Kevin Cole! Send me an address and some chapter news and I will send you a donation! Keep up the good work.

Comment(s): High Point U is not trying to eliminate the greek system from this school, i know that there has been a lot of talk as to what is happening with the houses and mainly our house. we still hold meetings and stuf in it etc... but they are building us a new house ( not just us but every frat) starting in Febuaury and opening in August of 2003 for the new school year. these are not gonna be shitty houses either...how? u might ask....myself and a few other brothers are on the housing commitee for our BROTHERHOOD and we have been given the chance to make anything we have ever wanted of a great and respectable fraternity house. i have been doing a lot of the designing and stuff with the imput of many people and the school is willing to spend a great deal of money for each and every house, which is money that they will not see back for around thirty years so please do not stop ur donations as alumnus because parts of our school see that money which is used to build this house. the price you might ask that it is going to cost to build this new frat house.....after everything is done and we, as a brotherhood, have recieved what we want and need the expence will be close to a million and these plans have already been approved and the school is very eager to build. our fraternity will be on a great uprise for many years to come with the new houses built so if u have any imput as to what u as an alumnus would like to see throw it up on the message board or e-mail me with ideas.

Comment(s): Active Brothers, I know the Fraternity is going through some down times right now, that is no reason to pack it up and call it quits. This is the time to get every Brother motivated and focused on why they joined the only Fraternity on campus. It's not your fault the pledges dropped this semester, it has happened many times before, Spring is always a challenge for new recruitment. Just get all of your priorities together and never ever give up!!! The older Brothers are suppose to be an example to the younger Brothers of how to be a leader and a good Brother, put in your time and they will follow the way. You all need to come together and remember why you joined the best Fraternity on campus. Listen to each other and figure some solutions out. na, glad to hear things are on the upswing. i'm sure things are tough without Brothers living in the house. The house was always the daily 'homebase'. school admin. flat out screwed us (and all greeks) with that new BS policy. how's the spring class looking? the numbers are crucially low right now but as you guys already know - quality, not quantity, is what has made us the best. the quality and heart of the active Brothers and all Alumni since '57 is why we get through these rough spots (and we've ALL had them). All funny business aside...have we found a solution to the problem with the money we owe??? I for one will be pissed if this goes any further due to all the effort I have put into the fraternity over the past few years. It has not all been financial, granted, but a significant contribution no the less. Ultimately we need to look back to see where the initial debt started. I assure you it does not go back very far. The brothers that were active at that time need to be contacted and asked to contribute...especially if they still owe money to the fraternity. This needs to be done, not for spite, but out of obligation. Hell I know a Kappa Delta sister who has sorority debt on her permanent credit report. For what ever reason they could not pay at that time is irrelevant. Now many of the brothers who contributed to that debt have good jobs and can afford a "donation". Develop a work group, track them down and ask them to contribute to the organization who helped them step into manhood, introduced them to the world, made them a world of new friends, got them laid, made them give 110% and put them into history as a national brother of Delta Sigma Phi and more importantly, Delta Zeta. An amount cannot be assigned to what it meant to my college experience. The friends I have made, lifelong friends I may add, by being a Delta Sig at High Point College and later High Point University are endless. Any brother of DZ knows what I mean. No body does it better.
100 bucks from 50 old brothers will correct this ASAP. Start with the ones who have money owed on the books. Use your fucking cell phones with night and weekend minutes. It's FREE!!! Work from the newest brothers on back. Get pledges of money just like HPU does in its fund raising department. Write it down and keep trucking. We all spend 100 bucks every weekend....at LEAST! Hang in one weekend. Have all the active brothers stay low key one weekend, have all of them contribute to the pot what they would have spent going out or home or getting fucked up. It's only one weekend!!! Contact every brother that is in town for Furniture Market this week and ask them to contribute. Work market and put all the money toward the fraternity. If all active brothers did that, you would be 10 grand in the plus.
Don't be passive..make it happen. Don't ruin a tradition going for 45 years plus. I would like to come to 50th.

Comment(s): I have heard of people doing a Brother auction. This is where you auction a brother out for a night. This is a way to make a little money, well as much as you would make at a car wash. You guy’s need to put your heads together and come up with ways to make money. Times have been lean for Brothers before you and they made it through and so can you. You guy’s need to get on some ones ass if all dues are not paid. Sergeant should step up and take care of this as with other members of the EC. Every one knew how much dues where and when they were do. Ask the school to see if there is any thing you can do to make money during Market. They have all kinds of things at the Presidents house. This is when your true leaders step and find a way to make things happen so pay attention so that you know who to put on EC next year.

Comment(s): I spoke with Nationals myself. I wanted to pass along to any other alumni a few things. Greg (the current president) is doing everything possible to help resolve this issue. Its true, the issue didnt come up over night...its actually been a problem since the past president was in office (scott). I would ask that you not bury your head in the sand when issues like this arise. I dont think that the cost of 45th put you guys that much in the hole. I gave an extra $200 while in HP for that (a thank you card would have been nice). Did every brother attending have their $$ paid in full? Do you allow individuals who dont pay to attend other functions, or ritual, or to have a little borther? I know all of the arguements that a Fraternity shouldnt be a "business" but when you are going to RUIN everything for the 500 initiates who came before you over the past 45 years, you need to start acting a little more businesslike. Its a time like this when you see who is willing to chip in for the Brotherhood, and who isnt. If you have guys in the chapter, who arent pulling their end of the load, then fuck them. They arent your Brother. They are dead weight. You all have an obligation and a bond to each other...and to every one of us. There will be alot of us in town for market. Comment(s): So far so good - A payment plan with National. This allows for future brothers/leaders the opportunity of continuing the DSP Bond (at) HPU. No one needs to tell you that you have to have the money before you spend it. I can recall a few times where dues may have been temporarily allocated for a Sailors Ball or a ?th reunion. As a brotherhood these funds were quickly paid....What you guys need to do is either increase dues, reduce current events or become creative in how to raise money. Fast Eddie once said "Why do we pay dues to only be assessed more money for mixers or socials?" Made we wonder why. During that period at HPC we sold more light bulbs, candy bars, raffles, slave auctions, recycle of aluminum cans, boat drags or plain old fashioned FREE car washes. Put your heads together, as those who came before you, develop a plan and execute. You'll be amazed at how and where the money will come from.

Comment(s): Your economic dilemma did not happen overnite, so it will take time to fix it. It was good to learn that someone took the initiative to call National and work out a payment plan. When I was there, we sold donuts (yes donuts), lightbulbs, and had car washes, however you will not get rich quickly doing any of these. Perhaps (and hindsight is always 20/20), you should have toned down the latest celebration; also, another later weekend than when you had the birthday party would have drawn more alumni. Many alums are in business and April 15th is a significant day for those of us who are in the real world. Check with Dean Gart and see if any bricks or tin are still left from the old McCulloch Hall and offer to sell to alumni from that era. Additionally, see if there are any campus projects available that would provide income. For example, the fraternity would be compensated for setting up and tearing down after concerts, dances, etc. This would require a group effort which means no video games for the evening. Also, Christmas is coming up, put together a professional looking newsletter, obtain addresses of all alumni, send a Christmas card, newsletter, and solicitation for funds to decrease the debt. I was down there a couple of years ago during homecoming, and the Fraternity house was filthy, with nothing planned for the returning alumni. Needless to say not a good impression nor advertisement for a once proud organization. Clean up your act, let the alumni know it, and I am sure help will arrive from the most unexpected sources. We will help if you can demonstrate that it will be wisely used. We used to rule that campus, and there are people in the current administration who can attest to that.

Comment(s): Yes, we were going to be suspended. But, when I talked to nationals today they had not recieved our check of $700.00. This payment is being used as a downpayment on our outstanding debt. We also worked out a payment plan, where we pay a minimum of $441.00 a month. We are also in the process of paying this years dues on time. Everyones ideas are greatly appreciated, but it takes money to make money and with us paying dues for this year and last year our funds are greatly strained. We also still have to rasie enough money for paddle dance and any other expense that will arise thourghout the year.
